Our RedBoards are great. But don\'t they sometimes seem a little **_BIG_**?!

Enter **smôl**, a new range of boards which are both small in size and small on current draw. It\'s a smôl world!

The smôl RTC is a smôl-format board for the RV-8803 Real Time Clock. The RV-8803 boasts some impressive features including a temperature compensated crystal providing extremely precise time-keeping, low power consumption, and time stamp event input along with a user-programmable timing offset value. The RV-8803 also has an improved I2C interface compared to the RV-1805 RTC that removes the need to sequence commands/writes to the device. Best of all, the temperature compensation comes factory calibrated. The RV-8803\'s INTerrupt pin can be connected to the smôl bus via configurable jumpers. The smôl RTC provides access to the RV-8803\'s EVI pin too via a breakout pad.

Adding a real-time clock to your project is the perfect way to get more accurate data; timing or otherwise. The RTC module has counters for hundredths of seconds, seconds, minutes, hours, date, month, year and weekday with a number of alarm and interrupt settings available as well. Plus the large operating temperature range of the RV-8803 and temperature compensated crystal makes it a good addition for field applications or harsh environments.

_**smôl** is an ecosystem of miniature processor boards, peripheral boards, power boards and accessories. Designed to be both physically small and to have the smallest possible current draw, smôl is the perfect choice for applications like wildlife tracking or discrete long-term monitoring. smôl boards are designed to stack one on top of the other, using 16-way 0.5mm-pitch Flexible Printed Circuits (FPCs) to provide the interconnect from one board to the next. Looking for a really compact solution for your next project? This is it!_

_We will be adding new smôl boards over the coming months. Don\'t see the board you need for your application? Reach out to us via the [SparkX Forum](https://forum.sparkfun.com/viewforum.php?f=123) and tell us which board(s) we should add next!_
